Carole SundeenFirst, congratulations to our competitors at IES … Voices Unlimited – 2nd best in the world. We are all so proud of you and your accomplishments! And we are also proud of Sweet Synergy, who placed 4th in what I heard was an extremely good contest.

Congratulations to Voices Unlimited Chorus for earning a wildcard slot for International in Hawaii next year. And won't it be fun to have Celebrity City, Shimmer! and Rio together in Calgary this year? As usual, Region 11 will be well represented.

My chairs for this year are Dottie Henshaw, who is the Chair of the Regional Convention Steering Committee (CRC) and Jolene Forzetting, who is the Chair of the Regional Seminars Steering Committee (CRS). My other chair is Linda Wong who is Regional Sites Coordinator. She is busy, as always, negotiating future contracts for the Region both at the Convention Center and at the hotels.

I hope that all of you enjoy our Summer Sizzler with the BUZZ as our faculty. See you there! – Carole

Cathy LeeWhat's the Buzz this summer? Come to Region 11's Summer Sizzler and find out! Our faculty for this weekend are Karen Breidert, Jeannie Froelich, Debbie Connelly and Nancy Fuhrmann – aka the Buzz.  Not only will they be teaching classes, they will also perform on our Winners' Circle show on Saturday night. This is truly going to be an amazing weekend that you won't want to miss. If you've missed the registration deadline, you may register on site. There's always room for more attendees!!

Congratulations to Voices Unlimited for representing Region 11 so well in San Antonio. As a member of Voices Unlimited, it was an awesome experience and we were so grateful for all the support we received from the region. I'm looking forward to Santa Monica's return to the Harmony Classic next year!

It was so exciting to be present as they announced the order of appearance for Honolulu!! Number 30…Voices Unlimited. Number 31…Channelaire!! Our next stop is Calgary to watch Celebrity City, Rio and Shimmer! astound an international audience. I am so proud of all our Region 11 choruses and quartets. As a region, we continue to improve and excel in our chosen hobby.

Finally, I would like to thank the Regional Seminars Steering Committee under the direction of Jolene Forzetting and the Santa Monica Chorus for all the time and energy they have contributed to make this seminar a success. The region is certainly blessed with an abundance of talented people who are willing to share their gifts with the region! I hope your weekend is filled with music and laughter. Have a great weekend!! – Cathy

Linda WongI am so "Buzz"ed about this weekend and am looking forward to some great education and some great barbershop from our terrific faculty! Region 11 is off to a great start this year! Congratulations to all of our IES, YWIH and International competitors. Thank you for representing Region 11 so beautifully, and thank you for your time, talent and dedication to our shared hobby! These competitors commit to the thrill of competition, but they also make a large financial commitment individually and as a group. Please be sure to support their fundraising activities as they are all representing our wonderful region!

I would like to welcome a new member to the Finance Committee, Nan Waltman, (Channelaire) who will be our new Grants Advisor. Nan is available for advice and assistance to choruses in their quest to seek grant funding from outside sources. Also, I am pleased to welcome back to the committee, Ferne Hogan (CAL) as our YWIH Fund Chair and Sue Matus (Santa Monica) as our Regional Sales Chair. Thank you, committee! – Linda

Erin LunnGreat to have you all back in Bakersfield!  What a great turnout Region 11 had at IES this year. I hope all attending enjoyed their week – I sure did!! Due to Voices Unlimited's rehearsal and class schedule, I missed some of the RMT stuff, but I got lucky and spent some quality time with Lisa Miller (Membership Coordinator) at her sessions and lots of the information shared there is very useful to us "marketing"-type peeps, so I thank her for letting me sit in.

This year, your Region is starting an "in-house" marketing service for our choruses. We'll be rolling it out Phase One this weekend for your input before we start the program. This will mark a first in the International organization and I know your chorus will want to be part of it. The Marketing Team will also be providing choruses with information about a variety of advertising opportunities so make sure your chorus is represented at the Presidents/TCs Forum. It's time to get out in our communities and "make some noise" about our craft.

I'm headed to Tulsa in early September for a meeting of the International Membership Committee and I would truly value your input prior to this meeting. I'll be posting a survey to the R11NG in late August and I hope you'll take time to fill it out and return it to me. I would be so proud to take your ideas with me to headquarters 'cause I know you are FULL OF GREAT IDEAS!!!

Congratulations to Sweet Synergy and Voices Unlimited on their IES performances!! – Erin

Cathy TautkusWhat a fabulous time was had at IES this year!!! Region 11 is so proud of Voices Unlimited and Sweet Synergy for their fantastic performances at the Harmony Classic and Young Women In Harmony contests. You were simply awesome! In addition, there was also lots of training for the RMT newbies, like me! Thank you, International, for another very successful educational event!!

Welcome to our 2007 Summer Sizzler! We are super thrilled to have the Buzz as our faculty for this weekend. And I can't wait to see all of our Novice Quartets compete – we are so rich with TALENT in this region!!

I would like to say thank you to Jolene Forzetting (and team!) for, once again, putting on a terrific weekend of education, contest, sisterhood, and just plain fun! And a special thanks to our chorus host for this weekend, Santa Monica – goddesses, everyone! Have a great time this weekend! – Cathy

Linda KellyIs Region 11 HOT or what?  We couldn't be more proud of Voices Unlimited and Sweet Synergy at the Harmony Classic Contest! A HUGE congratulations to both groups. And then we learned that Santa Monica will again represent us at Harmony Classic next year AND Voices Unlimited will be a wildcard chorus to compete with Channelaire in Hawaii in 2008. We certainly know how to show how well our efforts are paying off. I'm not sure any other region has a many representatives in Harmony Classic and International Contest as we do. Someone want to do the numbers?

How wonderful it is to have the Buzz with us this weekend! I'm convinced that no one can show us better how to keep this SPIRAL going upward! It is our sincere hope that the classes offered by the BUZZ and our amazing regional/international faculty will be so worth your time here this weekend. We know you are the dedicated ones who want to continue to improve...therefore we want to make sure we're meeting your educational needs.

We are so blessed in this Region to have such wonderful leaders and a closeness of proximity to enable us to attend many regional events. While I was in class for all the Regional Education Coordinators at IES, I found out how difficult it is for them to provide educational benefits to their members because they are so far apart and travel is expensive. I'm positive that has impacted our overall improvement in our contest scores for both quartets and choruses.

We send our very best to Celebrity City Chorus as they compete at the International Chorus Contest in Calgary, as well as our own regional champion quartet, Rio, who will be competing for the first time together at the International Quartet Contest. PLUS, the ever-fabulous, Shimmer!, who is going back to compete at they made the Top 15 last year! How exciting is all that? Our Rally Ribbons will sure look fabulous!

Don't forget to block out our next weekend together for Fall Festival where we will have Kathy Carmody and Bonnie McKibben as guest faculty…PLUS the always-memorable Double Quartet contest. It's always a hoot!  – Linda

Monica Tautkus

Welcome to a BUZZin' Summer Sizzler! I am so excited for all the wonderful accomplishments we have made since contest weekend!!  All of our directors spent an amazing weekend together with Diane Porsch and Pam Pieson as our guest faculty!  The retreat theme was, "Chicken Soup for the Director's Soul", and was just what the doctor ordered!  Kudos also to Laura Pallas, Dede Nibler, and Lynne Smith for sharing their talents with us all during the retreat, and to VU for being our demo chorus!

What a marvelous showing at IES for Region 11 this year!!  How very proud we were to cheer on Voices Unlimited Chorus and Sweet Synergy as they competed!

I am pleased to say that we have 2 new Directors to announce – Lynne Smith has decided to retire from Golden Sands Chorus, and they will be in very capable hands with Master Director, Linda Kelly, at the helm! Also, Anne Casey is retiring from Agoura Hills Harmony Chorus, and I'm very blessed to say I am their new director!

The directors will again be spending all day Friday with our guest faculty, Karen Briedert! Working with the directors for some specialized showmanship training will be Lynne Smith.

Fall Festival brings the directors together again on Friday to focus on characterization  with our friend, and guest faculty Bonnie McKibben. Be sure your director plans to be there as we focus on the #1 topic the judges have pointed out for several years now.

I am thrilled that Patti Goin is our new DCP (Directors Certification Program) chair, and I am looking forward to working with her to promote and train toward the DCP requirements for everyone in the program.

Mary Ashford will continue to chair the Spotlight Program – so see Mary and volunteer to direct a song or have your quartet open a class for a seminar this year!

If I had my way, Wendy Franklin would be the S.T.A.R. chair FOREVER!  She has done such an amazing job and has breathed more life into our S.T.A.R. program!  Have fun learning your new STAR songs, singing in the STAR chorus and be sure to thank Wendy when you see her!
