All
I have to say is … HOLY COW what an amazing contest!!
I just got home from Las Vegas and I can hardly believe
what an amazing experience it was!! I felt like I was
at a horse race and we had a nose-to-nose finish!! Congratulations
to CHANNELAIRE – you were amazing!
I don’t mind saying that with such an awesome list
of competitors, I was worried that you might not place
as well as you might at another contest. But you all
rose to the occasion with an awesome performance. Congratulations
to Bobbette Gantz and Judy
Ashmore on a job well done! I would like
to thank our international organization for putting on
such a superb convention. I’m always amazed at
the flawless execution of such a huge event.
Back to the business at hand, welcome to Fall Festival
2006 with our amazing faculty, Jim Arns!
I’m sure we are all in for a treat this weekend.
This weekend we will also be enjoying our Young Women
in Harmony contest and Novice Double Quartet contest
with a new twist. Don’t miss any of the excitement.
I hope that everyone will participate fully in the weekend
so that we all benefit from all the weekend has to offer.
Finally, I would like to congratulate the Regional Seminars
Steering Committee, Jolene Forzetting and
the HIGH SIERRA CHORUS on a job well
done. We have come to expect smooth running seminar weekends
and I'm sure this one will be no exception. Thank you
for all your hard work and attention to detail that makes
this possible. Have a fabulous weekend!! –Cathy |

Welcome
to another exciting Fall Festival! I can’t wait
to hear the double quartets and the young women singers! Jim
Arns will keep us motivated all weekend
with his exuberance and style. The membership and public
relationschairs of Region 11 choruses will have a casual
breakfast meeting this Saturday, sharing ideas on how
to inspire more singers to join our hobby and how to
get our message out to the public. Choruses performing
at Vegas ranged from 49 to 180 members! I don’t
know if we want 180 members in our choruses right away,
but somewhere in the middle would be nice!
We are all so very proud of our Vegas competitors! XTREME and SHIMMER! were
outstanding! CHANNELAIRE – we
couldn’t be more proud of your terrific performances!
Congratulations ALL! –Karen |

We
are so blessed in Region 11. What is a CHAMPION made
of? Region 11...that's what! Congratulations to our Vegas
competitors, CHANNELAIRE, SHIMMER!, XTREME and
Mic Tester Chorus, CELEBRITY CITY! We
couldn't be more proud!
AND...welcome to our Region 11 Fall Festival, including
our YWIH Festival within a Festival! We are thrilled
to have guest faculty, Jim Arns with
us PLUS Karen Fish, YWIH Coordinator
from Region 12 with special guests, LADIES FIRST,
YWIH Chorus from Region 12. This weekend is packed with
fun and information, celebration with our Vegas competitors
and LOTS of singing.
I finish by asking the question burning all of our minds
today ... are you a Hatfield or a McCoy? –Linda |

Congratulations
to CHANNELAIRE, SHIMMER! and XTREME.
Region 11 is so fortunate to be represented by these
wonderful performers at International Convention, the
largest Sweet Adeline Convention since our 50-year celebration
in 1995 in New Orleans! Thank you to these fabulous Divas!
I would like to thank the International Board of Directors,
who provided an opportunity to have all Regional Finance
Coordinators meet in Vegas and discuss various financial
situations in our individual regions. It was very educational
to hear not only how regions handle their finances, but
how similar we all are on many levels. Of course all
regions are tasked with providing the best educational
opportunities for their members. It amazes me at the
financial challenges many regions are faced with in providing
education for their members when they are separated geographically
by so many miles, it is a monumental task! In listening
to the problems other regions face, it makes me appreciate
even more our close geographical proximity that is within
driving distance for all Region 11 members to take advantage
of our great faculty! These seminars are packed with
education, packed with fun and packed with love for this
wonderful and fulfilling hobby of ours! Have a wonderful
Fall Festival! Give your Treasurer/Finance Coordinator
a hug! –Linda |

Here
we are, once again, in Bakersfield – ready to learn
all kinds of new and wonderful things. We will all get
to experience singing for Jim Arns in
the Hatfield and McCoy choruses. And his classes will
be great as well.
Congratulations to our International competitors – CHANNELAIRE, SHIMMER! and XTREME.
We were all so proud to have you as Region 11’s
representatives. Wasn’t it fun to be the “hostess
region”? Not only did we have great competitors,
but CELEBRITY CITY was fabulous as the
mic testers! On a personal note, it was so thrilling
to be on the International stage with so many of out
there cheering for us. It was an awesome experience!!
Enjoy the weekend, learn lots of new stuff and have fun
doing it! –Carole |

At
contest next Spring, we are adding a great educational
tool for our Region 11 directors. We will mount a camera
overhead in the stage rigging to provide a front view
of our Directors as they direct during their contest
performance -- just like at International!
Region 11 is again organizing a Director’s Retreat
on May 18-20, 2007. We have exciting guest faculty lined
up, as well as some of our own. And an opportunity to
have Dede Nibler and the VOICES
UNLIMITED CHORUS as our demo chorus!! This is
shaping up to be a fabulous weekend for all of our “hungry” directors!
Several of our choruses have new Directors! Dani
(Avalos) Prigge is now directing CENTRAL
COAST CELEBRATION, and there are certainly exciting
fireworks going off up there as this Queen of Harmony
(CHICAGO FIRE, 1995) takes the helm!
After the resignation of Zona Snyder,
the HIGH SIERRA CHORUS welcomes chorus
member Nancy Coufal (pronounced:
Soul-Full) off the risers and to the “best seat
in the house” as their new Director! Welcome her
this weekend as they hostess “The Best of Times”.
And HARMONY SHOWCASE CHORUS is in the
midst of a director search upon the resignation of Linda
(Taylor) Kelly. Until a new director is
chosen from several candidates, Linda & Linda
(Agner & Ninekirk) are back at it again
keeping the chorus moving forward as very capable Interim
Co-Directors.
It’s going to be a fantastic weekend with Jim,
and your Director will have all day Friday to just soak
up all of the knowledge and passion and energy Jim imparts! –Monica |

Well,
I'd love to say I got my “to do” list from
Summer Sizzler all completed by this event, but what
a crazy few months it has been! Karen Lewison and
I are still working out all the details in our positions
due the IBOD decision to eliminate Chapter Coordinator
and I'm also working with Regional MMC's from around
the world to promote Sweet Adeline's exciting new partnership
with Curves, International.
Marketing-type people: please remember to send me copies
of “good stuff” your chorus is using to promote
themselves, newspaper articles or membership drive info.
I share this info with choruses all over and they are
always so impressed with the quality information that
comes out of Region 11 and I'm always so proud to share
our successes with our sisters in other Regions. Currently,
I am working on a project to revamp the “Steps
to Chartering” booklet provided to prospective
choruses, so if you have had recent experience with the
Steps Program, this is your time to share your input.
Send it to me at tenorlunn@cox.net. –Erin |

Starting
out the fantastic week in Vegas, 6 members of your
Region 11 Management Team attended an all-day meeting
on Monday with RMT members from all the regions around
the country and world. Not only did we get to hear
informative presentations from members of International
Headquarters staff, we had the chance to network with
others who hold our same positions in other regions.
Lots of great sharing of ideas!
SAI has made big changes for next year regarding the
organization of the Regional Management Teams. Look
for an article with all the details elsewhere in this
issue of News@11Online.
On a personal note, I am so honored to have been nominated
for the Sweet Adelines International Board of Directors.
Thank you to so many of you who wrote to say “Congratuations” and
to tell me that you will vote for me!
Enjoy the weekend, and especially all the classes with Jim
Arns. Can’t wait to see him work
his magic on Region 11!! –Debbie
