Welcome to 'Harmonize The World'!!
Your Regional Management Team, Regional Convention Steering Committee and your Assisting Chorus, CHANNELAIRE, are so thrilled to have you here in Bakersfield for our annual regional competition. We hope your time here is filled with fun, fellowship and beautiful harmony. This year your regional volunteers have spent time refining all the technical aspects of this event in response to input and feedback received from last year's event.
This weekend we welcome new Regional team member, Jolene Forzetting, and acknowledge Carole Sundeen and Erin Lunn for their years of service and valuable contributions to the Region. Each member of the team is so grateful to their strong committees for ensuring that seminars and other educational events are well planned and held to the highest standards for our wonderful membership.
Our hearts fly over the Pacific with our International competitors SHIMMER!, CHANNELAIRE CHORUS and VOICES UNLIMITED CHORUS as they prepare to represent Region 11 in Hawaii. And a hearty congratulations to SANTA MONICA CHORUS for earning a spot on the Harmony Classic stage in San Antonio – what an amazing region we have.
But on to the 'task at hand'! Everyone working at the Regional level wishes each and every competitor this weekend the absolute best stage experience – share your hearts and music with one another and this weekend will top them all. |

Communications Coordinator

Well, the fog is beginning to lift (and in Fresno that’s a really big deal!). My first year as Communications Coordinator is coming to a close and it has been a year of many firsts! I’d like to express my appreciation to all those who have helped me transition into this position. While there have been significant changes in the position, it was all new to me and a little overwhelming at times!
I am looking forward to publishing my second regional directory and hope to be able to offer it in a CD format. I hope the additional format will make it more user friendly (as well as tree friendly!) Unfortunately, we will not be able to have our regional directory available online due to security concerns. Our primary concern is always the protection of our member information and we are not convinced that we can provide the kind of security that would be necessary to make the information available on the Internet.
As always in Region 11, we are actively recruiting our talented membership to become more involved on a regional level. We have many awesome volunteers in our regional positions but we need to be constantly looking to the future to cultivate new leaders. If you have interest in any of the positions that you see being performed, please express that interest to anyone on the Regional Management Team. We want you! – Cathy |

Tautkus
Directors' Coordinator
gtasing2@aol.com
Every week at your rehearsal, your musical director is charged with bringing forth the best of HARMONY in both music and friendship. Webster puts it "to bring into accord" or "to have components pleasingly combined". I especially love "the state of individuals who are in utter agreement" ... wouldn't we all love to see that comment on our score sheets!
This weekend is the culmination of putting it all together – a measuring stick of all of our rehearsal nights and the individual growth we have all gained this past year.
I'd like to wish an amazing experience on stage to our first time directors…
Adrienne Cluff, co-directing California Heartland
Jim Campbell directing Southland Harmony
Erin Lunn, co-directing Voices Unlimited
Nancy Coufal, directing High Sierra
And welcome back to the stage…
Linda Kelly directing Golden Sands
Monica Tautkus (me!) again directing Agoura Hills Harmony
Region 11 is so blessed, as am I, to work with the following individuals who give so freely of their time and energies for all of us while bringing more music and harmony into all of our lives. Please give them a hug and thank them when you see them this weekend!!
Wendy Franklin (CHC) brings you the S.T.A.R. program at regional seminars and kicked this event up a notch to include a performance on the last Winners' Circle Summer Show. Now we are looking forward to having Ase Hagerman guest direct our STAR Chorus this coming Summer Sizzler!
Mary Ashford (CC & SVS) is the person behind the scenes who gathers quartets and directors to add more music and harmony into our seminars with our Spotlight program. This coordinator position is a cross between juggling and putting a complex puzzle together to be able to open each major class at our seminars with a song!
Patti Goin (CCC) has taken on the DCP program this year and works with all our directing teams to help them progress as far as they can in the International Director's Certification Program. Most of our front line directors have reached the Certified Level, and Patti will continue to assist everyone in the DCP program to achieve their personal goals of being the best director they can be!
Say or do something nice, in harmony, for your Director this weekend! – Monica |

While contest is a "marker" that represents the end of a year in the life of us as Sweet Adelines, it is good to remember that there is "Life after contest"! And boy, is there LIFE waiting around the bend for us at this coming Summer Sizzler!
Mark the dates right now... August 1-3, 2008, for the time of your life! We have two of the most amazing international faculty ever coming to spend this time with us… Ase Hagerman and Sandy (Robinson) Marron! They will both be spending time with our directors, quartets and general membership. Once again we are offering a FREE coaching session to each of our top five quartets at this regional contest, PLUS our International-bound, SHIMMER! You have not lived until you have attended one of Ase's classes on rhythm! Make sure you are planning to be here!
I would also like to thank the following people who continue to serve Region 11 with tireless enthusiasm and talent!
Dede Nibler, assisted by Kira Wagner – YWIH Program; Joanie Adler – Arrangers Program; and Diana Riley – Video.
See you at Summer Sizzler! – Linda |

Events Coordinator

Welcome to Contest 2008! It is hard to believe that a whole year has passed since we were together for competition. Time flies when you are singing.
This is my last article as Region 11's Events Coordinator and I want to thank everyone for being so supportive during my years on the RMT. I want to give a special thank you to Dottie Henshaw, who has acted as CRC the past few years. Dottie, your incredible organizational skills are second to none! Your attention to detail makes our contests run smoothly. I also want to thank the entire Convention Committee for all of the hard work they do to make this weekend run smoothly. THANK YOU!!
A big thank you to Linda Wong, who is our Regional Sites Coordinator. You do such a good job negotiating contracts and working with the hotels and convention center to ensure that our events have the best "home" possible. I appreciate all you have done for the region.
I want to thank Tina Rowley, our Competition Coordinator, for the efficient job you always do to make our contests are the best they can be for our competitors. Your focus is always on "what's best for the competitor" and we all appreciate this!
I want to thank everyone that has served on the Seminar Committee. You all work behind the scenes to make our seminars run seamlessly. Last, but certainly not least, I want to thank Jolene Forzetting for the job she has done these past years as Chair of the Seminar committee. While she has done a wonderful job as CRS, she will not be returning in that capacity next year. That’s because Jolene will be Region 11's new Events Coordinator beginning May 1. Congratulations, Jolene! The region will be in good hands.
My wish for every competitor is that you have a wonderful, memorable time on stage. To all competitors – break a lip! – Carole |

Wong
Finance Coordinator
lmwong@bak.rr.com
Our Fiscal Year for 2007-2008 is drawing to a close, so my wish for all Region 11 choruses is that you are ahead of your budget for this year and preparing for the 2008-2009 Fiscal Year!
I would like to thank the members of my team, Nan Waltman as Grants Advisor, Sue Matus as Regional Sales chair and FernE Hogan as the YWIH Fund chair. These ladies have done an outstanding job, as usual, for the region and they have my gratitude and respect for their commitment and dedication to our great region! This will be the last event for Sue Matus serving as our Regional Sales chair. Sue has served in this position for the last 5 years and has done an absolutely wonderful job. She has brought in over $37,000 for the region as Regional Sales chair, and that doesn’t include this convention! Please give Sue a big hug!
Also, we will be missing the awesome talents of FernE Hogan as our YWIH Fund chair! This will be the first convention FernE has had to miss and I am sure we will be missing her as much as we will be missing her! FernE has been the only YWIH Fund chair, collecting money at our events, recording donations from other groups and people and writing all of the wonderful thank you letters for our YWIH Fund donations. FernE has worked tirelessly to promote the YWIH Fund and grow it for our future Sweet Adelines. We currently have over $7,200, which does not include this convention! Please send FernE a hug and our Region 11 Sweet Adeline love. Thank you, FernE, you are the best! – Linda |

Lunn
Marketing Coordinator
lunnone@bak.rr.com
I've been on the dang team so long I can't quite get a grip on how it will feel to not have a meeting to attend each seminar (but I think I'll adjust pretty quickly!). Can't tell you all how much I will be missing the fellowship and laughter that is the Region 11 RMT. In an unusual turn of events, the person I've been working with to step into the Marketing position has moved out of state leaving the region in a bit of a pickle. At this time we do not have any nominees for the Marketing position and we will be forced to leave it vacant.
This position has been a real joy, the 'tangible elements' involved are rewarding and it's provided opportunities I never dreamt of. But more so than the actual tasks it's been the planning, brainstorming for the region’s future that have made my heart sing. What our RMT needs in a team member is someone with a vision for the future for this region and who is eager to see our organization flourish. I'm so proud of everything this team (and those before) have been able to accomplish. I've seen some huge transitions in my 6 years on the team and am so amazed by the quiet confidence this body has shown through even the most difficult times. It's been an absolute honor to say I was part of this team.
I'd like to raise up the strong women who made a path for me: Thelma Atmore, Judy Ashmore, Linda Wong, Marcia Bosma, Dede Nibler, and Elaine Casperson. And I “tip my hat” in appreciation to everyone who takes one of the vital roles that keep our region so strong.
To my RMT sisters – Cathy, Cathy, Monica, Lisa, Carole, Linda and Linda – you are the best, love ya much and thank you for everything you do. – Erin |

Membership Coordinator
MorganRDH@aol.com
What a whirlwind year this has been!! I have loved serving the region as your Membership Coordinator, fulfilling the remainder of the previous Coordinators term and I'm looking forward to beginning my first two year term in this position!!! The more I learn about being your Membership Coordinator, it seems the more I need to learn!!! I'm excited to jump in even deeper and make myself available to you over the next year! So... we will travel this exciting journey together!!
Over the past year I have met with the Presidents & Team Coordinators, along with their Membership Chairs. We focused first on new member recruitment at Summer Sizzler, then at Fall Festival, we discussed member retention. Wonderful networking has taken place and I'm looking forward to building on the foundation that has already been laid down!
Along those lines, we will be holding our first Membership Seminar on July 28th at the Channelaire rehearsal hall in Oxnard. All Region 11 members are invited to attend!! Feel free to invite any friends from our adjacent Regions, 12 & 21, as well. We will have a guest panel that will be sharing some fabulous membership ideas and we will continue building our networks between choruses! All of this and lunch, too! It will be an awesome time of education and sharing!! The cost for the fabulous opportunity is only $20.00. Keep your eyes peeled to the R11NG for more details!
I would like to send out a huge thank you to my team!!! Betty Ford, our Chapter-at-Large Liaison, does an amazing job of keeping all of our CAL Members informed and up to speed on everything that's going on in Region 11. Bea Knaapen, our TC/President Yahoo Group Moderator, keeps us all wired & online, and she's always available for tutoring!! My assistant, Trudy Morris, keeps me in line and I truly appreciate her talent!! I can't thank you enough for everything you do!!!
I hope to build my team over the next year and if any of you out there are interested in getting involved at the regional level, please contact me at MorganRDH@aol.com. It is more rewarding than you can imagine and as much as we love what we do in our own backyards, we need to keep getting out there and "Harmonize the World"!!! – Lisa

Cathy Tautkus
Team Coordinator

Wow! It is hard to believe that I have been your region’s Team Coordinator for a year now – time has sure flown!! I always knew the RMT did a great job, but never fully appreciated just how hard they all work at making this the best region in SAI until I joined the team!!
I’d like to recognize and send out my heart-felt thanks and admiration to those doing committee work, especially those on my team. Thelma Atmore (By-Laws & Standing Rules) is a font of information when it comes to her role and has such a deep knowledge about the history of our region. Kathy Spier (Young Singers Foundation (YSF) Liaison) is the woman responsible for ensuring Region 11 is represented at the YSF Silent Auction at International. This past year, our region’s gift to the auction was a beautiful crystal necklace and earrings set in fall colors, made by Kathy. It got rave reviews! Donna Ewy (Insurance) ensures that we have all the required coverage to properly insure our region at convention and various seminars/activities. Debi Bitterolf is the RMT Secretary. One of her jobs is sorting through all the e-mail correspondence that flies between the RMT as we noodle through various issues and topics throughout the year. What would I do without you?? All of them have agreed to return in their roles for the 2008-2009 year. New to my team is none other than Erin Lunn who has agreed to be our Strategic Planning chair. Erin brings so much clarity and focus to our RMT meetings, this role was a natural fit! I am very proud to work with these women.
I want to remind everyone that the RMT is always looking for “A Few Good Women” to fill the various committee jobs. Please contact me for an application or to talk about all the wonderful opportunities Region 11 has for our members to become more involved at the region level. – Cathy |
